GWM Ascends to Australian Automotive Heights with Record-Breaking Sales

Great Wall Motors (GWM) has announced a monumental achievement in 2025, reporting a record-breaking 52,809 new vehicle sales. This figure represents a substantial 23.4% increase year-on-year, achieved even as the overall Australian automotive market experienced a decline of 0.9% according to VFACTS numbers.

This impressive performance solidifies GWM’s position as the 7th most popular vehicle brand in Australia and the leading Chinese automotive brand, signaling a growing acceptance and enthusiasm among Australian buyers. According to GWM, demand was strong across its product range.

Key highlights from GWM’s 2025 performance include:

  • Haval Jolion: 19,413 units sold, a 36.3% year-on-year growth.
  • GWM Cannon: 12,412 sales, up 34.1% compared to the previous year. The Cannon Alpha recorded 2,524 units, up 38.8%, with a significant shift towards the Hi4-T PHEV platform.
  • Haval H6: 13,217 sales, representing a 6.5% increase over 2024.
  • Tank 300: 5,035 units, a surge of 46.7%, especially after the introduction of the 2.4-litre diesel powertrain in 2025, appealing to customers seeking off-road capabilities.

GWM’s aggressive product strategy in 2025 involved the launch of seven significant new models and variants. These included the refreshed Cannon ute with the 2.4-litre diesel engine, the Tank 300 2.4-litre diesel, the H6GT PHEV (now accounting for 50% of H6GT powertrain sales), the Cannon Alpha Hi4-T PHEV, the all-new H7 SUV, the refreshed H6, and the Tank 500 Hi4-T PHEV. This expansion demonstrates GWM’s commitment to offering diverse powertrain options to Australian customers. GWM’s success with models like the Cannon, particularly the Hi4-T PHEV variant, arrives as ARB unveils new load system alternatives to traditional canopies for dual cab utes, signaling a growing and diversifying market for ute accessories and customization.

GWM is also investing in customer experience, expanding its dealer network to 123 dealerships (a 10% increase in 2025) and allocating $1 million to improve parts availability, technician training, and service infrastructure.

Looking ahead to 2026, GWM plans to launch at least seven new models in Australia, focusing on new energy options with Hi4 and Hi4-T technology. This positions GWM to cater to the evolving demands of the Australian market, where, as GWM notes, new energy vehicle segments are accelerating.
